Settler colonial origins of intimate partner violence in Indigenous communities

Indigenous women in the United States experience disproportionately higher rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. Through a framework settler colonialism, this article examines how colonial gender practices disrupted and eroded generational patterns roles power relationships within communities, contributing over time today's levels IPV perpetrated against women. I argue that future research on must attend historical, contemporary, legal impacts policies laws contribute increased marginalized racialized communities.
